Nasi Goreng


Here’s a really easy recipe with a really snazzy name. It’s basically just fried rice…in Indonesian. I present to you Indonesia’s national dish, Nasi Goreng!

Here’s what you need:

  • 500 gms  Cooked Rice
  • 20 ml olive oil
  • a drizzle of  Sesame Oil (a LIGHT drizzle)
  • 2 Eggs
  • 50 gms Prawns (peeled)
  • 50 gms Finely chopped chicken
  • 50 gms Chopped carrots
  • 50 gms Chopped Beans
  • 2 cloves of Crushed garlic
  • 2 Chopped Thai red chillies
  • 40 gms thinly sliced spring onions
  • 15 ml Soy Sauce
  • Salt n Pepper to taste

Heat some oil in a wok. You could either use olive oil and add just a couple of drops of sesame oil for flavor.  Or you could just use only sesame oil. Throw in your chicken and prawn and fry until cooked through. I would suggest you add the prawns after you’ve given the chicken a couple of minutes of alone time since the prawn literally takes less than 5 minutes to cook. Nothing worse than over-cooked prawn.Now add the crushed garlic and chopped thai red chilli and saute for about a minute before adding your veggies. Once you feel the veggies are somewhat done, pour in the lightly beaten eggs and cook. Lastly, add the cooked rice, soy sauce and seasoning.  Give it a good toss and finish off with fresh chopped spring onion.  If you feel particularly Indonesian, top off with sunny side up eggs.
